Nicknames are funny
It’s sometimes funny how nicknames come around. Take Craig’s for instance…. “Goose”. It started in college- I think Alex Roberts is to blame for this one. I’m not sure how he landed on “Goose” but I think it may have been a Top Gun reference. Problem is, I think Craig looks more like Slider (I think that’s his name) than Goose in that kick-ass, classic movie with the best soundtrack ever in existence.
My most utilized nickname is “Shazel”. This comes from my friend Nathan or Nate or “Nazel”. Nate and a bunch of his art school cohorts came to visit us when we 1st moved to Texas back in 01. [I remember we didn’t have furniture when the 5 or 6 of them visited- we just hung out on our living room floor a lot). Long story short, Nate ran into a friend at the screen printing conference they were all here for and his friend pronounced his name “Neck-vein”. For some reason, that turned into “Nazel” and I became “Shazel”, Craig became “Crazel”. And, it kinda stuck.
That is until Theo was born and learned to talk. My nephew Theo is apparently a pretty prolific talker at the ripe old age of 2. And apparently, he’s been referring to me as “Tres Chic- Ooh La La” instead of the usual “Auntie Shay Shay”, his short for “Shazel”. I really hope “Tres Chic” sticks because I really cannot think of any other name that would most accurately describe me. He’s now calling Crazel “Crystal” which is pretty awesome, too.

Now onto Luci. Nicknames for her are pretty wide and varying. Here are some of them:
“Stinky Marie” (in case you were wondering where this site name came from)
“Luci Goosie”- for obvious reasons
“Turkey Burger”- For NOT so obvious a reason- not sure how I came up with this one, but I like it.
“Butterbean” (which could be more accurately described in mid-west peeps terms as- limabean)
“There’s a….little girl named Luci with the big fat Caboosie, Yeah- uh-huhhh”. Started as a song and ended as a nickname: “Luci Caboosie”
“Lulu”
My lil’ “big-mound-o-rebound”
“Booger-nut squash”
“The Luce”
And, the list goes on.
Turkey Burger and Stinky Marie are my favs. I could also sometimes be referred to as “Stinky Marie”- especially early in the morning before I’ve brushed my teeth.
Peace-out,
Tres Chic
