I Wanna Sleep for Weeks… Like a Dog at Her Feet………
C’est Magnifique! I can’t wipe the smile off my face. Man Man has go to be one of my favorite bands of late. Thanks to my dear friend Benjie who introduced me to them, what was it, 4 years ago… 5 or so? Times flies!? During SxSw here in Austin. I’ve loved them ever since. I’ve seen them what… maybe 6 times? 7? or so? I have no idea. I never get sick of them- live, especially. They are one of the only bands today that can completely suck me in during a live show-similar to these videos from the COOLEST concept/blog I have come across in a long, long time-

This is an amazing concept. Follow a band around a city. Indie band. Until they find somewhere cool to play their music. Or don’t. The film crew will literally follow a band around until something organically happens. Abandoned building? Slow bookstore? Unoccupied ladies room? City streets of Paris? Unwelcoming Parisian bar? Whatever happens, the crew is there to catch it on film. And cool location or not, it makes for some of the most real/raw/amazing footage I’ve seen. What they captured of Man Man is really good. Really, really good. Again, cannot wipe the smile off my face.
If you’re a fan, watch all 5 videos from the start (link below). If you’ve maybe heard of them but aren’t really that into them, start off with warm-up#1. Maybe then move on to warm-up #3 (where they start off with Modest Mouse and a lil’ Metallica before they finish a la Groucho Marx during a head-shave in a Paris barbershop). If you have no idea what I’m talking about and don’t care- at least try warm-up #1- that song is amazing.
And, regardless, please also watch the last video, The Epilogue. You can even fast-forward till the concert at the end, if you really want to. Wait, scratch that- don’t fast forward (be patient, it’s long, but I think completely captures the spirit of Blogotheque…. not to mention the spirit of Man Man).
BTW- Who would want to marry someone with a mustache, anyway? (Well… unless they were one of the cuties from Man Man, that is)….

Not a fan of Man Man? Check out Beirut. Check out #64.1- one of my favorite songs to run to due to the drum-beat after around the end of the 2nd verse- Of which I was really, really happy to see the dude playing on Paris trash cans. Nice.
Damn. The next one, 64.2 right outside the Boulangerie and into the bar. Pretty damn amazing, too. Damn. MANY more bands to choose from…. I’m feelin’ better already….
…. oh, and of course, that dude from Beirut knows French…..—hilarious.
